A new must-visit address in Lyon: Les Halles du Japon

Fans of Japanese and Korean culture, kawaii worlds and Asian cuisine... welcome to paradise!

After an opening that was delayed by nearly a year and a half, Les Halles du Japon officially opened their doors last Friday 30 April. To be discovered as a matter of urgency!

Japan and Korea in Lyon

The announcement of the opening of such a place had caused quite a stir and visitors' impatience kept growing! Les Halles du Japon now offer us all their riches and originality.

Spread over 2 levels, the store is organised around two areas:

The ground-floor grocery

As soon as you arrive, you're projected straight into East Asia. The fine-grocery displays, the refrigerated units and the long rows of freezers are brimming with specialities of all kinds, even the most surprising.

This is notably what makes Les Halles du Japon a unique place. All the products are imported directly from Japan and Korea, offering you a wide range of foods, most of them almost impossible to find in France.

Of course, you'll find all the delights that make Asian cuisine famous (gyoza, noodles, mochi, rice, etc.), but also much more original foods. A word to the most curious: you won't be disappointed! Have you ever tried champagne-flavoured KitKats? Or cookie-mochis? These 2 examples are just part of a long list of surprises awaiting you, constantly renewed by new shipments.

On the drinks side, there'll also be something for every taste. We won't say more about the fridge filled with far-too-cute bottles bearing the likeness of our childhood heroes. Of course, tea is also celebrated, as well as everything you need to make your bubble teas.

Although to be enjoyed in moderation, lovers of sake or Japanese whisky won't be left out either, since an alcohol corner offers many references.

The first-floor accessories

Head to the level above to discover the area dedicated to decoration, tableware and the cutest objects in the shop.

If you want to breathe some zen into your home, you have what you need with the various decorative items, once again imported directly from Asia. Statuettes, flags and of course Maneki-neko are part of the selection.

It's also here that you'll find most of the utensils for cooking. Professional equipment, notably when it comes to knives, designed in Japan and ideal for cutting fish.

Bento fans, a dedicated aisle awaits you. Moulds, cutters and other kitchen accessories will give your recipes a kawaii look. Who has never dreamed of eating a Hello Kitty-shaped onigiri?

And to serve it all, a wide range of trays and porcelain tableware. Delicacy and aesthetics seem to be the watchwords for the ornamentation of each piece. Plates, bowls, chopsticks, tea sets, sake sets... everything to set the most beautiful table.

As you'll have understood, Les Halles du Japon offer the chance to feast and discover totally atypical products. If you're a fan of this world, we can only encourage you to go as soon as possible! If you don't know Japanese or Korean culture, the same goes — head there and you won't regret it.

Now we know where to find you for your shopping or your most original gifts!
